Stefon Diggs Player Overview

What You Need To Know:

  • Diggs reached 1,000 yards last season. But he proved extremely inconsistent for a Vikings offense dominated by Dalvin Cook.
  • Buffalo sent a 1st-round pick to Minnesota for Diggs, who instantly projects as the team’s top WR.
  • There’s unlikely to be a high ceiling here; Josh Allen’s accuracy woes and a run-first attack have been prominent over the past 2 seasons.

Final season in Minnesota

2019 was a strange year for Diggs.

He reached 1,000 yards for the 2nd straight season, adding a respectable 6 scores. Yet only 5 of his 94 targets came in the red zone. He caught 1.

Diggs recorded TDs of 45, 62, 51 and 54 yards, helping his yards per catch settle at a career-high 17.9. He also finished 6th among WRs in fantasy points per target; 3rd in yards per target.

On a run-heavy offense — Kirk Cousins chucked it only 444 times — Diggs was wildly inconsistent. He fell shy of 10 PPR points 6 times. Three of his TDs came in 1 game (Week 6 vs. Philly).

Moving to another run-centric team, is Diggs bound for another rollercoaster season?

Fresh start

The Bills dealt a 1st-round pick for the 26-year-old, who’s under contract through the 2023 season.

We project him to lead the team in targets, albeit by a slim margin. John Brown was impressive last season (72-1,060-6) and has a built-in rapport with Josh Allen. Cole Beasley’s a fine slot receiver, but he’s not a guy who’ll command a big target share.

The real issue is that Buffalo doesn’t want to put games into Allen’s hands. Through 2 seasons, he’s completed 56.3% of his passes at 6.6 yards per attempt. His 2019 QBR ranked 24th among 30 qualifiers.

Sure, there’s still some untapped upside with the young passer. But we don’t expect a drastic shift in OC Brian Daboll’s approach. Across 6 career stops as an OC, his units have ranked outside the top-6 in rush attempts just once. Buffalo has the personnel to pound the rock after draf…
