Ryan Tannehill Player Overview

What You Need To Know:

  • After taking over in Week 7, Tannehill cracked the top 10 QBs in fantasy points per game.
  • He was incredibly efficient, registering 9.6 yards per attempt and a 7.7% TD rate.
  • With rushing ability and a bona fide #1 WR, Tannehill’s sure to post some explosive fantasy lines. But with low volume, expect inconsistency.

Tannehill takes over

It wasn’t until Week 7, but Tannehill finally took the reins from an underperforming Marcus Mariota.

The results were surprisingly strong. Aided by 4 rushing scores, the former Dolphin ranked 10th among QBs in fantasy points per game the rest of the way. His 7.7% TD rate through the air was key, as this offense routinely flowed through Derrick Henry. Tannehill chucked 30+ passes only 3 times. He averaged 27 passes per outing.

The efficiency here was incredible. His 9.6 yards per attempt easily beat his previous career high of 7.7. He chalked up a 69.6% completion rate in his starts — an exceptional figure. In fact, his adjusted completion rate (76.8%) ranked 7th best among 35 starters with 200+ drop backs (per Pro Football Focus).

He was superb on play-action. With defenses threatened by Henry, Tannehill led the league in play-action completion rate (76.7%) and yards per attempt (13.5). 29.9% of his passes were off play-action, not far off from #1 finisher Lamar Jackson (34.8%).

Year 2 in Tennessee

While it’s an abnormal offseason, Tannehill gets the benefit of knowing he’s the guy for Tennessee this time around. The Titans signed him to a multi-year extension with $62 million guaranteed in March.

Not much around him has changed. Delanie Walker and RT Jack Conklin departed, although Walker saw action in only 7 games a year ago. Jonnu Smith provides a massive athletic and big-play upgrade.

Dennis Kelly was their swing tackle but has the ability to start on the right side. Tennessee also took massive Round 1 G/OT prospect Isai…
