Burkhead topped his previous high for touches by just 3 in his 1st Patriots season, but he did so in 6 fewer games than he played the year before. A rib injury cost him 4 weeks in the middle of 2017, and then a knee sprain claimed the final 2 regular-season games plus New England's 1st playoff contest. Burkhead had otherwise enjoyed a clean record -- on very limited touches -- since an August 2014 MCL sprain. He re-signed with the Patriots this offseason and will fight for touches in a perennially crowded backfield. Sony Michel figures to challenge the red-zone role that accounted for all 8 of Burkhead's TDs in 2017.
