Randall Cobb Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

  • A toe injury cost Cobb the final 6 games of the 2020 season.
  • Through the first 10, he compiled a 38-441-3 line and was sitting 38th among WRs in PPR points; 40th in non-PPR.
  • Cobb was tough to trust in fantasy lineups, with just 2 top-24 PPR finishes (Weeks 3 and 7).
  • Among 99 WRs with 40+ targets last year, Cobb ranked 26th in yards per target, 52nd in yards per route run and 50th in Pro Football Focus receiving grade.
  • His 79.2% catch rate was his best mark since his 2011 rookie campaign; his 9.2 yards per target his 4th best among 10 NFL seasons.
  • Those efficiency metrics figure to take a big step back this season if the Texans don’t have Deshaun Watson.
  • Watson’s absence would leave Houston with some combination of QBs Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills.
    • Taylor has thrown just 121 passes over the last 3 seasons and sports a career 7.0 yards-per-attempt average.
    • Mills is a 3rd-round rookie who made just 11 starts at Stanford.
  • Cobb could see more than the 4.8 targets per game he averaged in 2020. Gone is WR Will Fuller, who garnered 6.8 targets per game last year.
  • Houston’s other WRs are Brandin Cooks, 3rd-round rookie Nico Collins, Keke Coutee and Chris Conley.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Cobb remained reasonably effective in his age-30 campaign last year but fell short of reliable fantasy value.

He could see more volume in 2021 with Houston sporting 1 of the weakest WR groups in the NFL. But this figures to be a bad passing game if Deshaun Watson isn’t under center.

Cobb is an unexciting late-round target unless it looks like he’ll have Watson this season.
