Preston Williams is 23-years old. Born in Lovejoy, Georgia, and in high school he was considered a four-star recruit. Measuring 6’4” and weighing 191 pounds, he was considered the 7th best wide receiver in the country at the time of his high school graduation.
He initially played his first two seasons of college football at the University of Tennessee. After only recording 16 receptions for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns, he then transferred to Colorado State University in 2017.
Missing all of 2017 due to NCAA transfer rules, Williams had a monster return with 96 receptions for 1345 yards in 14 touchdowns in 2018. He led the Mountain West conference in receptions, receiving yards and was 2nd in receiving touchdowns.
Williams went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft but signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in May. A big reason he fell off draft boards was his off-field troubles. According to Tom Pelissero, Williams did not receive an invite due to the NFL policy about past issues involving violence (domestic).
After making the final 53 man roster, he ended up not only playing In Week 1 but caught three passes and scored a touchdown.
With each week, he looked to get more comfortable, becoming a reliable receiving option for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Averaging 13.4 yards per catch, Williams was peppered with 60 targets over eight games, catching 32 passes for 428 yards and 3 touchdowns.
In the middle of a monster game where he had 5 catches for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns on nine targets, he went down with a right knee injury that ultimately turned out to be a torn ACL. An unfortunate situation for someone who had the potential to be a star in his rookie season. At the time, he was fourth amongst rookies in receiving yards after DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, and AJ Brown.
