Logan Thomas Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

  • Thomas entered 2020 with 35 career receptions after converting from QB early in his career. He doubled that career total by Week 13 of last season.
  • Thomas’ target volume got a huge late-season boost. He averaged 5.5 targets and 3.1 receptions over the first 11 games. That jumped to 9.8 targets and 7.2 catches per game the rest of the way (including the playoff loss).
  • The latter stretch began with the Week 13 game at Pittsburgh, which Terry McLaurin entered questionable with an ankle sprain. McLaurin endured 2 straight 2-catch games and later missed Week 16.
  • Thomas jumped from 15.4% target share over the first 11 games to 23% over the final 6.
  • Among 55 TEs who drew at least 20 targets last season, Thomas ranked:
    • 41st in yards per route run, according to Pro Football Focus
    • 42nd in passer rating on balls thrown his way
    • 29th in contested catch rate
    • T-29th in receiving grade
    • T-25th in average depth of target
  • Football Outsiders rated him just 34th among 49 qualifying TEs in both receiving DYAR and DVOA.
  • Thomas ranked 3rd among all TEs in targets, 3rd in catches, 7th in yards, tied for 9th in TDs. Among that group of 20+ target TEs, Thomas checked in just 43rd in yards per reception.
  • Washington added a lot of bodies at TE this offseason but no single, scary challenger.
    • The team signed Ricky Seals-Jones, Deon Yelder and Dylan Cantrell to modest 1-year contracts.
    • It spent a 4th-round pick on John Bates, who caught 47 balls (including just 2 TDs) across 4 seasons at Boise State.
    • Washington signed basketball-player-turned-footballer Sammis Reyes to a 3-year deal after his impressive workout at Florida’s pro day.
  • Reyes might be the most intriguing but he didn’t play football in college or high school. So expecting any 2021 contribution seems unwise.
  • Washington made more significant additions at WR -- led by Curtis Samuel, 3rd-round rookie Dyami Brown and Adam Humphries -- a…
