Short basically lost 2019 to a partial rotator cuff tear, appearing in just 2 games. Before that, we saw his pass-rushing performance fall off after DT Star Lotulelei left for Buffalo in free agency.
In 3 full seasons as a starter alongside Lotulelei, Short averaged 3.8 total pressures, 1.1 QB hits and 0.5 sacks per game. With Lotulelei gone in 2018, Short fell to 2.4 pressures, 0.5 hits and 0.2 sacks per game.
Enter 1st-round DT Derrick Brown. The 6'5, 325-pound #7 overall pick arrives with Lotlelei-level promise. Brown has the size and talent to occupy extra blockers, which could free up a healthy Short to get back to harassing QBs. We'll watch this summer to make sure the 31-year-old is back to full strength. If he is, Short could be a value for DT slots in fantasy.
