The Raiders let DeAndre Washington walk this offseason, but they extended Richard in February. That came after he led the team’s backfield in targets each of the past 2 seasons. Richard tied for 12th among all RBs in targets over that span.
However, Richard has also seen his carries, yards per game and yards per attempt decline each of the past 3 seasons. Josh Jacobs’ arrival last season to dominate the rushing work won’t reverse that.
The Raiders also drafted Lynn Bowden in Round 3 -- a college receiver and running QB -- and announced that he’ll play RB. And they signed former Broncos RB Devontae Booker.
It’s not a loaded backfield, but there are several guys now who specialize in the same area as Richard.
Richard tied for 24th among RBs in receptions last season but tied for just 56th in PPR points. That included only 1 game of double-digit points and no TDs. There’s not much to like about him this season.
