Jakobi Meyers Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

-Meyers served as the default WR1 for a Pats squad that saw the now-retired Julian Edelman suit up for only 6 games.

-The former UDFA totaled 59-729-0, primarily as a short-range target.

-Meyers led the Pats with 81 targets at a 19.2% target share.

-Among 84 WRs with 50+ targets, Meyers ranked a surprising 10th in yards per route run (2.24).

-Meyers posted lines of 12-169 (at Jets), and 7-111 (at Dolphins) — both without Edelman.

-2021 brings about much stiffer target competition. The Pats added WRs Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne in free agency; Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry at TE.

-Cam Newton returned to the squad on a 1-year “prove it” deal. His clock is ticking after the Pats added Alabama QB Mac Jones 15th overall.

-Regardless of who’s under center, Meyers will represent a low-ceiling PPR target because of the new supporting cast. After running a route on 93.4% of the Pats’ passing snaps last fall, look for that number to dip.

-New England will remain a run-heavy offense, especially for as a long as Cam Newton is under center. The Pats had the league’s 2nd-lowest pass rate in 2020.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

A 2019 UDFA, Meyers was a nice story last season. He popped for games of 18 and 29 PPR points on a Patriots squad desperate for pass catchers.

The setup is simply much different this time around. With Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne arriving, Meyers doesn’t profile as a draftable fantasy asset this summer.
