Pratt saw his playing time grow as his rookie year went on. He jumped to starter status when the Bengals released MLB Preston Brown after Game 9. Over the final 7 outings, Pratt averaged 4.9 solos, 2.6 assists and 0.6 tackles for loss. That's a 16-game pace of 78 solos, 42 assists and 9 TFLs. 120 total tackles would have ranked 18th in the league last season. And Pratt cracked 70% playing time in just 3 games, never exceeding 75%.
Pratt faces new competition in a refurbished LB corps this summer. The Bengals drafted Logan Wilson (Round 3), Akeem Davis-Gaither (4) and Markus Bailey (7). They signed LB Josh Bynes in free agency. And the signing of SS Vonn Bell likely will push SS Shawn Williams more into the LB picture.
We'll watch this summer to see who emerges. Pratt hits camp with a year of experience as his advantage. He drew raves from coaches and teammates for his athleticism in last summer's workouts. We'll see whether he can translate that into an even bigger role.
