Dyami Brown Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

  • Brown is a deep-ball artist at this point.
    • He averaged 20+ yards per catch each of the past 2 years at UNC.
    • His 2019 breakout sophomore season included 9 TD catches of 20+ yards, 2nd most in the nation (among 12 total TDs).
  • Brown ran a 4.45-second 40 time at his pro day. That’s 71st percentile historically among Combine WRs. Even with the 0.05-second penalty for a pro day 40 (which have historically timed faster than Combine runs), he still ranks 68th percentile among NFL wideouts.
  • NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah compared Brown to Terry McLaurin as a prospect, citing his vertical speed and good downfield ball-tracking. Jeremiah also pointed to “issues working back downhill” in routes. “But Terry McLaurin had some of those similar issues, and he’s more than figured it out there with the Washington Football Team.”
  • HC Ron Rivera agrees with the McLaurin comp for Brown: "His contested catches is what stood out. And another guy like that was Terry McLaurin. His contested catches.”
  • Brown joins an offense that ranked 4th-lowest in WR target share last season. But along with drafting Brown in Round 3, Washington paid up for Curtis Samuel in free agency.
  • Last season’s top 4 in targets: McLaurin 134, J.D. McKissic 110, Logan Thomas 110, Cam Sims 48.
  • Washington’s signing of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick should improve the downfield passing game -- perhaps by a lot. Fitzpatrick has had mixed results in that area over a long career, but he ranked 4th in adjusted completion rate on deep balls (20+ yards downfield) last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Fitzpatrick also finished the previous 2 seasons 9th and 8th in passer rating on deep balls.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

It would probably take an injury to Terry McLaurin or Curtis Samuel for Brown to have a shot at true fantasy relevance this year. His best hope is a camp good enough to make him a top 3 wideout in an offense…
