Chris Godwin Player Overview

Rod Christopher ‘Chris’ Godwin Jr. is 24 years old and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Middletown, Delaware. Godwin played high school football for a team that went 41-7 over his four years, including winning two state championships.

He caught more than 700 yards in each of his four years and caught 1,150 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns as a senior. Godwin went to the Under Armour All-American Game in 2013. He won the Gatorade Player of the Year for Delaware as a senior.

Rated as a four-star prospect and the top player in the state of Delaware, Godwin attended Penn State University. As a freshman, he caught 338 yards on 26 receptions. Godwin broke out in his sophomore year, gaining 1,101 yards and 5 touchdowns. Defenses began double-teaming Godwin, and he struggled during his junior season. He did finish with 11 scores.

At the 2017 NFL Combine, Godwin measured 6‘1“ tall and weighed 209 pounds, running a 4.42-second 40-yard dash. The Buccaneers selected him in the third round. His 34-525-1 season demonstrated his skills in a limited time. Godwin got better in 2018, and he caught 59 passes for 842 yards with 7 scores and was looking to break out in 2019.

He did just that. His 2019 season was Godwin’s emergence. However, an 86-1,333-9 stat line in 14 games was more than most would have speculated.

Godwin averaged 13.4 points per game, 19.7 PPG in PPR. Only Michael Thomas averaged more. It was enough to have him finish as the number two receiver in PPR formats, behind Thomas.

Thankfully Godwin has been able to stay healthy throughout his college and NFL career. Through three NFL seasons, he has only missed two games, the last two games of the 2019 season after suffering a hamstring strain. Unlike several other elite wide receivers who, by this time have already undergone multiple surgeries, or struggled with several different injuries, Godwin’s injury histo…
