Breshad Perriman Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

  • Through 5 seasons, Perriman has yet to exceed 36 catches in a year.
  • He has caught just 49% of targets for his career.
  • Among 91 WRs who have seen 200+ targets since Perriman entered the league in 2016, he ranks 4th in yards per catch at 16.53.
  • Perriman has a career average target depth of 16.4, according to Pro Football Focus. Only 10 wideouts in the league topped that number last season alone.
  • Perriman joined the Lions on a 1-year, $2.5 million deal with $2 million guaranteed. Tyrell Williams got $4 million, fully guaranteed.
  • The Lions swapped Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff, which is a downgrade for deep passing.
    • Stafford threw deep (20+ yards downfield) on 12.7% of his attempts last season, vs. just 7.5% for Goff. Among their 5 shared seasons, just 1 has found Goff throw deep at a higher rate than Stafford.
    • Among 41 QBs with 15+ deep attempts last season, Goff ranked just 31st in adjusted completion rate, 32nd in passer rating and 35th in PFF passing grade.
    • Goff did grade much better as a deep passer the previous 3 seasons than he did last year:
      • 2020: 58.0 PFF grade
      • 2019: 85.2
      • 2018: 93.2
      • 2017: 90.6
  • Detroit shed 65% of last season’s targets, with Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones the biggest offseason losses. TE T.J. Hockenson accounted for more than half of the 35% that returns.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Perriman can play the deep game. But a heavy reliance on that aspect doesn’t tend to deliver regular fantasy production. He arrives in Detroit with nothing in his history to suggest he’s about to be startable in fantasy. Landing with the Lions presents target opportunity, but the team appears to prefer Tyrell Williams on the outside, and we’re not sure this offense will be able to support 2 viable fantasy wideouts. (One might be a challenge.) All told, you could make a late-draft argument…
