Allen Robinson Player Overview

What You Need to Know:

  • Robinson ranked top 13 among WRs in targets, catches, yards and receiving TDs last year, finishing 7th in PPR points and 12th in non-PPR.
  • He should be in for similar volume in 2020 after Chicago made no major additions to the pass-catching corps this offseason.
  • The arrival of Nick Foles at least raises the floor of the QB play.

A big 2019

Robinson was better last year than you probably realize. Only Michael Thomas and Julio Jones topped his 154 targets. Robinson ranked 6th among WRs with 98 catches, 13th with 1,147 yards and 13th with 7 TDs. He finished 7th at his position in PPR points and 12th in non-PPR.

And he did it in a moribund Bears offense. Chicago ranked 29th in total yards, 29th in points, 25th in passing yards and 25th in passing scores. No other Bear topped 656 receiving yards.

Robinson simply rose above that wreckage. Pro Football Focus ranked him 12th in their receiving grades among 79 WRs with 50+ targets. He finished 29th in that group in yards per route run.

It was a super-impressive 2nd season in Chicago. Robinson was somewhat disappointing in his Bears debut back in 2018, posting a 55-754-4 line in 13 games. But he didn’t look like himself early on that year after his September 2017 ACL tear. Robinson averaged just 6.6 yards per target over his first 6 games of 2018 — but 9.2 over the final 7.

2020 outlook

Robinson projects for big volume again in 2020. The Bears replaced WR Taylor Gabriel with WR Ted Ginn this offseason, which looks like about a wash. They signed TE Jimmy Graham in free agency and drafted TE Cole Kmet in the 2nd round of the draft. So the TE group figures to garner more than the 69 targets it did a year ago. But don’t expect much of that to come from Robinson’s share.

He soaked up 26.6% of Chicago’s targets last year. That mark was at 21.5% in 2018 — and 22.6% over the final 7 games. Expect his share to settle somewher…
