Tony Romo is in too much pain to play
Tony Romo – OUT
Many observers thought that Tony Romo might be able to push through his back pain, but that was apparently wishful thinking. Romo notified the team last night that he would not be suiting for the Cowboys Week 9 matchup against the Cardinals. He has two small fractures in his back and was simply not ready to go.
Brandon Weeden will get the nod this afternoon against the Cardinals. Fantasy owners need to monitor Romo’s progress this week and see if he will be ready to go for Week 10’s juicy matchup against the Jaguars.
Robert Griffin III – Active
The table has been set in Washington for the return of RG3 who is fully expected to start on the road against a beatable Minnesota pass defense. No one really knows what to expect from the often injured quarterback, but all eyes will be on Minnesota this afternoon to see how he’s moving in the pocket and whether or not he will be running the ball. Fantasy owners should temper their expectations accordingly.
A.J. Green – Active
A.J. Green was listed as questionable all week as he grappled with an injured toe. He was limited in practice all week long, but he is fully expected to start today against the Jaguars.
Vincent Jackson – Active
Vincent Jackson was limited in practice all week long as he tried to bounce back from a rib injury. He started feeling much better later in the week and is line for a strong game against a very vulnerable Cleveland secondary.
Giovani Bernard – OUT
A series of nagging injuries finally caught up with Gio Bernard this week. He will NOT be on the field to face the visiting Jaguars. It was a hip pointer that finally forced Bernard to the sidelines after he has dealt with collarbone and rib issues though out much of the month. This is a blow to fantasy owners who didn’t scoop up Jeremy Hill or retain him as a fantasy handcuff, because he is a strong start against the woeful Jaguars.
Doug Martin – DOUBTFUL
Doug Martin is listed as doubtful as Bobby Rainey is likely to give the patchy Cleveland run defense all it can handle and more. The Browns field one of the worst run defenses in the league and Rainey will have a great day if he can manage to hold onto the ball.
Donald Brown – Active
Chargers running back Donald Brown is back for Week 9 and is expected to assume a backup role to Branden Oliver. Brown missed San Diego’s last three games as he made his way through the NFL’s concussion protocol, but lost his starting job to the explosive Oliver.
Ryan Mathews – OUT
Ryan Mathews has been out of action since Week 2 when he suffered a sprained MCL against the Seahawks and was carted off the field. He was actually spotted at Chargers practice on Friday, but fantasy owners will have to wait until after San Diego’s Week 10 BYE before seeing him on the playing field again. He is a must own or pick up for all fantasy players that need help at the running back position.
Jordan Cameron – OUT
Browns tight end Jordan Cameron has already been ruled out for Week 9, but many fantasy owners want to know if he will be ready for Cleveland’s Thursday night road matchup against the Bengals. The cold hard fact is that fantasy owners will be very lucky if they get Cameron back before Week 11. He’s been cleared for “light activity” but has NOT been cleared for contact and will very likely miss Week 10.
Owen Daniels – Questionable
Ravens tight end Owen Daniels is officially a game-time-decision, but is actually expected to play Baltimore’s Sunday Night road game against the Steelers. He got his knee scoped last Friday and returned to practice on a limited basis this week. However, he apparently felt much better on Friday and was reportedly moving very well in practice.
