Concussions in the NFL

Concussion data for the last three season

Last year saw a decline in the number of concussions across the NFL. The NFL has placed a clear emphasis on dealing with this issue and it appears as though their initiatives have been partially successful. We saw a distinct drop off in the amount of players who missed games due to concussions last year as opposed to previous years. If anything the additional rest period reduces the likelihood of an player getting another concussion in the same season.

The graphs below are from the site who get their data from PBS Concussion Watch. This is a great resource if you’re interested in a deeper understanding of the scale and some of the nuances of concussions in the NFL from a statistical view as well as a humane point of view.
