Injury News

Bills QB Tyrod Taylor went down with a concussion in Saturday's preseason game vs. Baltimore. Fortunately, our database shows that it's his first concussion. He'll have about 2 weeks to clear the NFL's concussion protocol before a Week 1 date with the Jets.

ESPN's Mike Reiss notes that Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell has been "slowed" by a knee injury. Mitchell injured his right knee 2 separate times in college, including a torn ACL in 2013. "His availability at this time remains an unknown," Reiss adds. We'll keep an eye on him.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports that an MRI on Patriots WR Julian Edelman's right knee confirmed a "complete ACL tear." He's done for the season and is tasked with a lengthy rehab. If all goes smoothly, he'll be ready for the start of training camp next year. But Edelman will be 32 years old at that point. Our model figures to peg him as a high injury risk in 2018.

Texans RB Alfred Blue suffered a high-ankle sprain in the team's 2nd preseason game, according to insider Aaron Wilson. "Hope is he'll be able to return soon," Wilson adds. High-ankle sprains are usually 4+ week injuries, so we're marking Blue down as doubtful for Week 1.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid said after Friday night's preseason game that RB Spencer Ware is dealing with a "sprained knee." His ACL is believe to be intact, but he'll undergo further testing to check for damage to the meniscus, PCL or MCL. It sounds like Ware escaped without a season-ending injury, but he's probably still looking at a multi-week absence. We'll continue to update his status as we learn more.

The Patriots "suspect" WR Julian Edelman suffered a torn right ACL in Friday night's preseason game against the Lions, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "But do not definitely know," Schefter adds. "MRI on Sunday to determine full extent of injury." These "he-probably-tore-his-ACL" reports usually turn out to be torn ACLs. If that's the case, Edelman will miss the entire 2017 season. He already had a lengthy injury history and will be 32 when the 2018 season kicks off.

The Chiefs quickly ruled RB Spencer Ware out for the rest of Friday night's preseason game after he left in the 1st quarter with a right knee injury. Ware went to the locker room on a cart. Any absence would turn rookie RB Kareem Hunt into the lead back. We'll await further diagnosis.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman suffered a leg injury in the 1st half of Friday night's preseason game against the Lions. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Edelman "limped off grabbing the back of his knee." He was eventually carted to the locker room. We'll update his status when we learn more.

Titans WR Eric Decker will miss the team's 3rd preseason game with an ankle injury, HC Mike Mularkey said. It's not ideal for a guy coming off an injury-wrecked season and settling into a new offense, but we've heard nothing to suggest that Decker is in danger of missing the start of the regular season. Our model pegs him with a just a 20.5% chance of injury in 2017.

Rams rookie WR Cooper Kupp will miss Week 3 of the preseason with a minor groin injury. A rising player in recent weeks, Kupp remains in line for an early-season role.

Texans DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice Thursday after missing more than a week of workouts and the team's 2nd preseason game. While the situation seemed a mystery according to several recent reports, the Houston Chronicle says Clowney was dealing with leg soreness and spent time working off to the side. The important thing is that Clowney's back on the field now, in plenty of time before the regular season begins.

Eagles DE Brandon Graham and LB Jordan Hicks exited Monday's practice with elbow and quad injuries, respectively. Both players missed Tuesday's workout, which HC Doug Pederson followed by calling them "day to day," according to The Intelligencer. Hicks also told reporters that he'd be OK, while Graham stood on the sideline for the Tuesday workout. Both issues look relatively minor, although likely to keep both starters out of Thursday night's 3rd preseason game.

Seahawks LB K.J. Wright left the team for about a week for what HC Pete Carroll deemed a knee "process" -- not a surgery -- according to The News-Tribune. Wright returned to practice Tuesday and said the unspecified treatment was for an issue that flared up in June and that he had been playing through. Wright said and the team "wanted to be smart, so I could be 100 percent for the season." Wright opened training camp on time and played in the 1st preseason game before leaving for the "process." Barring any setbacks, he appears on track for a normal start to the year.

Ravens RB Danny Woodhead is sidelined with a hamstring injury, according to the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. It's unclear when Woodhead was hurt or how serious the injury is, but Zrebiec doesn't expect him to play the rest of the preseason. Hammy issues are always concerning, especially for a 32-year-old RB coming off a torn ACL. Woodhead has a 37.7% chance of injury in 2017, according to our model.

Giants WR Odell Beckham (ankle) could "potentially" miss the season opener against the Cowboys, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan and Dan Graziano. A separate source said it's "not out of the question he could miss a week or two of the regular season." The Giants have only announced that Beckham has a sprained ankle. We don't have any details on the location (high vs. low) or severity. “Odell has an ankle, and we’ll see how he responds to treatment," HC Ben McAdoo said Tuesday. We'll obviously be keeping a close eye on Beckham's progress over the next 18 days leading up to the Giants' opener.

Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise has missed 2 days of practice with a groin strain that he initially suffered in warmups for Saturday's preseason game, according to The News-Tribune. Prosise had an MRI over the weekend, but HC Pete Carroll said it came back negative. The RB has only done some running on the side on the 2 practice days since, however. We'll see if he gets more involved and returns to full action in time for the 3rd preseason game.

A source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Giants WR Brandon Marshall will "be fine" after injuring his shoulder in Monday night's preseason game. We didn't notice Marshall get hurt -- and it never seemed like a serious concern. Consider his fantasy football stock unaffected.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano admitted on Tuesday that there's still no timeline for QB Andrew Luck's return. We've heard whispers that Luck has resumed throwing, but he remains on the PUP list. The Indy Star's Stephen Holder notes that the team has just 6 practices after this week before their season-opener against the Rams. He's starting to look doubtful to be ready for that one.

Browns RB Isaiah Crowell was a surprise scratch from Monday night's preseason game against the Giants after hurting his groin in practice Thursday, Cleveland.com reports. The issue is reportedly minor, though, and the team is said to have held him out as a precautionary move. We'll see how quickly Crowell returns to the practice field.

Giants WR Brandon Marshall suffered a shoulder injury in Monday night's preseason game against the Browns, according to ESPN's Lisa Salters. He went to the locker room for an x-ray. We'll pass along an update on Marshall when we get one. He entered the game with just a 20.6% chance of injury in 2017.
